Circa Survivor: 2023 Contest Recap

There are a lot of NFL handicapping contests out there, but none hold a candle to Circa Survivor! Just how popular is this contest? There were more than 9,000 total entries for the 2023-24 NFL season! This year’s version promises to be even bigger, especially since the guaranteed prize money has been increased to $10 million!

As you might expect, the 2023 Circa Survivor was filled with exhilarating victories and lots of agonizing defeats. Let’s take a look at how it all played out.

Vikings and Seahawks Dish Out Week 1 Heartaches

Veteran Circa Survivor players know that no one is immune to early exits in this contest. Parity in the NFL leads to more unpredictability, and yes, that kind of bad variance even happens in Week 1. Last year’s two biggest culprits were the Minnesota Vikings and the Seattle Seahawks.

More than 1,000 contestants picked the Vikings to take down the Bucs in Week 1. The pick made sense on the surface, as lots of sharp bettors weren’t expecting much out of new Tampa Bay QB Baker Mayfield. The Vikings dominated most statistical categories, but three costly turnovers sent 11.3% of Survivor contestants packing in Week 1, as Minny lost 20-17.

The Seattle Seahawks also doled out their fair share of Week 1 pain. Pete Carroll’s bunch clung to a 6-point lead at the half, but they somehow forgot to come out of the locker room for the second stanza en route to a 30-13 defeat at the hands of the Rams. Matt Stafford threw for over 300 yards to make 600 Survivor contestants have tears in their beers!

Commanders Wipe Out 412 Entries on Week 5 TNF

Just how hard is Circa Survivor? After starting with more than 9,000 entries, less than 2,000 remained alive after Week 5. That means that almost 80% of the field was eliminated in just a little more than a month! Holy Cow!

The biggest upset of Week 5 came on Thursday Night Football, as the Chicago Bears thumped the Washington Commanders to the tune of 40-20. This was a big shocker, especially since Chicago came into the game with an 0-4 record and an atrocious offense.

Justin Fields led ‘Da Bears’ to a 27-3 lead at the half and DJ Moore torched the Washington secondary for 230 yards and 3 touchdowns. That poor performance from the Commanders knocked out 17.3% of the remaining Survivor contestants. OUCH! We’re guessing that Ron Rivera didn’t receive any Christmas cards from these poor contestants!

The Bengals Brought More Carnage in Week 10

The hits just kept on coming for Circa Survivor players during Week 10 of the NFL season. The Cincinnati Bengals dropped the ball as large favorites over the Houston Texans to send home 36.7% of the remaining contestants. The crazy thing was that Cincy led 7-0 early on but never even sniffed the lead for the rest of the game!

The Bengals' defense let their team and the Survivor backers down in a big way by giving up 544 yards of offense to the Texans. CJ Stroud threw for over 350 yards and didn’t even show a glimpse of rookie nerves in the Houston victory.

Cincy wasn’t the only heartbreaker in Week 10. Losses by the Bills, Ravens, Jets, Falcons, and Titans also knocked out quite a few Survivor contestants. All in all, only 609 entries moved on to Week 11.

A Thanksgiving Massacre to Remember (and Forget)

As if the previous rough weeks weren’t bad enough, the Detroit Lions saved one of their worst performances of the season for Thanksgiving Day, much to the chagrin of 216 Survivor players.

Jordan Love and the Packers jumped out to a 20-3 first-quarter lead and never looked back, as Green Bay took down the heavily favored Lions 29-22. Jared Goff played pretty well in the loss, but 3 Detroit fumbles were the team’s undoing.

The crazy thing was that the game was never as close as the final score indicated. The Lions punched in a late TD and a 2-point conversion to make things look a little better. That didn’t help the 58.1% of Survivor contestants feel better about being knocked out on a major holiday!

When the Dust Settled, 2 Winners Circle Clients Brought Home the Bacon

It was yet another wild and whacky Circa Survivor, but we’re proud to say that two Winners Circle Proxy Service customers, IndianaJet and JaxJags, achieved a perfect season. Both of these fabulous people took home over 2.3 million dollars for their efforts! It was a pleasure serving both players!

This occurred after the last 4 remaining contestants agreed to split the $9.2 million prize pool. Wow! What a way for each of these folks to kick off 2024!
