When it comes to football handicapping contests, the Westgate SuperContest is like no other! These folks have been providing a thrilling, high-stakes NFL contest since 1988. To say that the SuperContest has stood the test of time would be a gross understatement!

Thousands of avid sports enthusiasts flock to the Westgate each year to participate in their annual SuperContest. First-timers and even some veterans still stare in amazement at the Westgate’s gigantic 4K video wall when signing up for the SuperContest.

In this post, we’ll quickly recap the 2022 SuperContest. Find out how it was a fight to the finish, with four handicappers battling it out during Week 18 of the NFL season.

SA247LLC Wins With Nail-Biting Victories on Denver & Miami

Most football contests are packed with drama until the final week of the NFL season. The 2022 SuperContest was no different! Adam LeGates of SA247LLC held a 3-point lead heading into Week 18, but that quickly evaporated after he went winless with his first three picks.

LeGates desperately needed the Denver Broncos to cover the -2.5 point spread against the Los Angeles Chargers to have any hope of taking home the grand prize of nearly $200,000.

Since four other contestants ended up going 4-1 in Week 18, LeGates also needed the Dolphins +1 over the Jets! Here’s a closer look at how both of those games played out.

Dolphins Need Late-Game Heroics to Outlast Jets

After a dull first half that ended in a 3-3 tie, the Dolphins took the lead in the third quarter on a Jason Sanders 37-yard field goal. Unfortunately for LeGates, the Jets wouldn’t go away quietly.

Greg Zuerlein connected with a 35-yard field goal of his own to tie the game early in the fourth quarter. The game stayed tied for almost the entire final stanza, and you can bet that LeGates’ heart rate and sweat levels were at all-time highs.

Thankfully, luck was on the Dolphins' side late in the game. Skylar Thompson engineered a drive that culminated in another Sanders field goal for Miami to put them on top for good. LeGates’ pick of Miami +1 won outright; now all that was left was Denver -2.5.

Broncos Get the Cover, But It Wasn’t Easy

Miami wasn’t the only team that needed a little bit of second-half magic in Week 18. The Broncos needed some of that luck as well.

LeGates’ main reason for picking Denver was because he assumed that Los Angeles would rest most of their starters. However, in typical Brandon Staley fashion, Justin Herbert and all of the starters played for three full quarters.

Much to the chagrin of LeGates, the Broncos never led in the first half. With both teams heading to the locker room in a 17-17 tie at the break, the fate of both the game and the SuperContest hung in the balance. Thankfully for LeGates, Russell Wilson got hot in the second half!

The former Seahawks QB tossed a couple of touchdown passes to give Denver a 31-20 lead early in the fourth quarter. Backup Chargers QB Chase Daniel tried to spoil the party with a late touchdown pass and a 2-point conversion of his own, but the Broncos held on for a three-point win. As any seasoned contest player will tell you, Every Half Point Matters!

2022 SuperContest Final Standings: How It All Shook Out

With those two dramatic wins on the Broncos and Dolphins, SA247LLC took home the 2022 SuperContest title. His overall record of 60-29-1 is something that few NFL handicappers ever achieve. LeGates may have finished the final week with a 2-3 mark, but that was good enough to give him a 1-point victory.

Just how tight was this race? Take a closer look at the standings! MARVELOUS MARK3, HEINEKEN 21, and BENNY STROUP all finished in a tie for second place!

JHASS07, a Winners Circle Proxy client, finished a respectable 3rd and brought home nearly $20K for his efforts. You can bet that he’ll be back in 2023 to take another shot at the coveted SuperContest title.
